BASALT FIBRES IN AN INNOVATIVE PEUGEOT
Peugeot Exalt stands out from the rest because of its bold design and surprising juxtaposition of raw materials. The vehicle was made of materials which come from local suppliers and from recycled materials, including basalt fibres.
The car was manufactured with the use of an innovative material - Newspaper Wood, which was made of used papers. The raw material was obtained from recycled economic press, which gives it a unique salmon colour. Another innovation is replacing carbon fibres with a natural composite – basalt fibres. They are made of basalt stone, which, in the form of an aggregate of a proper fraction, is melted at a very high temperature. This makes basalt rock come back to its original form, that is to lava. Leaking pig iron is drawn and cooled and then spooled. The fibre can be shaped during the drawing process. According to engineers, the use of basalt on a commercial scale will reduce the use of petroleum materials.
