More and more often the residents of Lower Silesia villages claim for damages connected with the activities of quarries. Some organised protests also happen. The most troublesome quarries are in Lesna (basalt mine), Karpniki and Stara Kamienica. The owners show their permissions and seismological analyses which say that there are no reasons to protest. Local authorities are also trying to solve the problem. For commune authorities each investor, even the troublesome one, means new jobs. For example, the mine in Lesna employs 50 people.
In Karpniki, the association to fight against quarries has been established. The members of the association put a label on their cars which says "I am against the feldspar mine in the middle of Karpniki". They argue that the license for extraction has been prolonged illegally. They are trying to invalidate it. When local authorities did not support them, they tried to create... their own commune. The quarry is owned by Pol-Skal company which is trying to get a license for the mine in Stara Kamienica where the protests also take place.
