12th General Congress

The 12th General Congress of The Employers Association of Stone Industry is now a thing of the past. This time, according to the new formula, it was an away event. Baranow Sandomierski was chosen and, we must admit, it was a great choice. According to the agreement settled during the 11th General Congress, the stonemasons meet not only to discuss various important problems but also to learn more about different centres of stone industry in Poland. The previous congress took place near Lwowek Slaski - one of the most important places in Poland associated with sandstone mining. This year the Board decided to choose the castle in Baranow Sandomierski. A distinguished Renaissance residence built by Leszczynscy family ideally suited the meeting whereas Swietokrzyskie region with its rich mining history created a perfect background for the congress. The agenda was varied.

The sessions were intermingled with lectures and excursions. The official part of the meeting finished on Friday evening. The budget was being discussed and different reports were presented. The controversy aroused when the participants were discussing the issue of the representative of the Association for the meetings of the European Federation of Natural Stone Industries Euroroc. The problem was not solved. The participants also had different views about the place where the Stone Congress is going to be held.
The next day started with visiting the mines of striped flint. Then the participants went to Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski where they visited JP Granit company owned by Jan Pawlik. Saturday afternoon was devoted to lectures and presentations which touched upon, among others, cutting by means of water and applying for EU funds.
