Since February the number of staff of the marble mine in Slawniowice (Nysa district) has decreased by 6 people (56 people work there).
We do not agree with the president's decision but we can do nothing, says Ryszard Sekula from the miners trade union. Unless the situation changes, the crisis will take a heavy toll. We may all be fired in the near future. The mine in Slawniowice was destined for privatisation. However, it has not been sold yet. Therefore, the mine is owned by the state. Andrzej Radomski, the president of the mine, justifies the dismissals saying that they were necessary because of the crisis and due to the decrease of the number of orders by 50 per cent.
