FERRARI MADE FROM MARBLE

ferrariThe sculpture showing the most expensive model manufactured by the famous Italian company has been made. The 1/3 scale replica was made by Lapicida company, which specialises in unusual projects made of natural stone. Ferrari 250 GTO is a sport car which was produced by Italian Ferrari in 1960s.

There were only a few tens of those sport cars manufactured, so the collectible cars reach extremely high prices at auctions. A few months ago a restored car, whose owner was an American Paul Pappalardo, was sold for 52 million dollars! This is the highest price that has ever been paid for a car. Interestingly enough, a few months ago the replica of Ferrari 250 GTO, made of Arabescato marble, was presented. 1/3 scale sculpture is 1.2 metres long, 46 cm wide and 34 cm high. The marble replica of the famous sport car was valued at 30,000 pounds (the price also includes a huge pedestal where the replica was put). Are the next pieces going to be made? Thanks to modern technology, projects such as this may be manufactured in small series. The first stage of works on the stone Ferrari included scanning the original by means of laser and then creating a virtual project out of this. Lapicida workers created a detailed 3D computer model. Stone processing was made by means of 5-axis CNC machine by Breton – ContourFive company. Cutters revolving with the speed of 7000 rpm required over 100 hours to make the desired shape of Ferrari GTO out of Arabescato marble. Next, workers from Lapicida spent many days on polishing and getting the perfect look of this masterpiece.
