Patricia Urquiola, a Spanish architect who lives in Milan, was awarded the Women of Marble prize this year. The ceremony took place during the stone fair in Verona (Verona Marmomacc). The prize was awarded for combining design and sculpture, material and clarity, colour and neutrality for another open days for decorative stone materials in both private and public field.
The Women of Marble prize has been awarded by the National Women of Marble Association for four years. The objective of the association is promoting and developing the awareness of the quality of Italian marble by means of contacts between people, organisations, associations and by means of cultural events, conferences and debates directed for trade associations, scientific centres, companies, with particular attention to women and their connections with natural stone sector.
The prize-winner, Patricia Urquiola, is an architect and designer. In 2001 she started her own studio in Milan which deals with designing, installations and architecture. She exhibited her works in the area of designing during, for example, the World Days of Innovation in Poznan in October 2009.
