NEW GRANITE ON THE STONE MARKET
After five years of research and long preparations the Swedish company Emmaboda Granit has presented a new material in its offer. The name of the stone is Bishop Black.
This black granite is characterised by a unique colour and texture. A lot of preparation works are still needed to start exploitation. Proper preparation of excavation and buying new machines are first steps. It will take some time before the quarry gets its full production capacity. As soon as everything is ready and extraction starts, the black granite Bishop Black will be available in the offer of Emmaboda company together with other materials such as Blue Pearl, Emerald Pearl or Ocean. Bishop Black is a material which is characterised by a unique colour and texture. Its density is 2,967 kg/m3, whilst porosity is 0.12 per cent, slip resistance in dry conditions is 49, whereas in wet conditions 32. The stone is quarried in the new pit called Bishop Black. The quarry is situated near Lonsboda, in the north-east part of Skandia.
Emmaboda Granit was established in 1907 and is now one of the largest and most important suppliers of stone in Sweden and Scandinavia (the company possesses 10 pits in Sweden). The company owns the following black quarries: Hägghult, Brännhult, Gylsboda, Duvhult, Bishop Black, Vanga, Bararp Hallandia, Red Bohus, Mahogeny and Kula.
