Thirty stonemasons from the stone company owned by Jan Siuta (in Cholerzyn near Cracow) were working hard to be on time with making and installing a sarcophagus in the Wawel Castle in which the President Lech Kaczyński and the First Lady were laid to rest. The Presidential Couple died tragically in the air crash near Smolensk. The tomb is in a cuboid shape with sizes 200 x 140 x 100 cm. It has been made from a honey coloured onyx.
The sarcophagus has been put on a pedestal made from a granite whose colour and texture is similar to the floor of the crypt. The sarcophagus was designed by Marta Witosławska. She resigned from decorations, just leaving a simple inscription and a cross.
