Marek Hlasko tomb |
The tomb of Marek Hlasko, a Polish writer, which can be found on Powazki cemetery (Warsaw) is in a very bad condition. The writer's friends, Hanna and Jerzy Press, are trying to make the media and local authorities get interested in the state of the tomb. The inscription (made by a famous Polish actor Jan Himilsbach who worked on Powazki cemetery as a stone mason) which says: "He didn't live long and all were against" can be hardly seen on the tomb.
In their open letter to Gazeta Wyborcza, Mr & Mrs Press motivate their request writing that Marek Hlasko is still widely read, respected and regarded as a prominent Polish writer. On 14 June there is the 40th death anniversary of Marek. It is a great occassion to renovate his tomb.
According to the newspaper, the preparations to change the tomb are now in progress. The group of the young people from Stowarzyszenie Mloda Rzeczpospolita (the Young Republic of Poland Association) took the initiative and talked about it with Mr. Andrzej Czyzewski, the writer's heir. The tomb is to be made of granite and its cost is estimated to be about 15,000 PLN.
