STRZEGOM WILL USE GRANITE TO WELCOME ITS VISITORS
In late April 2015 the mayor of Strzegom announced a competition entitled “The project for welcome signs in Strzegom county”.
The subject of the competition was to create a visual concept for a promotional and informative sign of the town. Welcome signs are going to be installed at the roads leading to the town from Jelenia Góra, Świdnica and Wrocław. The competition is technically supervised by the head of the Department of Culture, Sport and Promotion of the Municipal Office in Strzegom. One of the technical requirements of the project says that only durable building materials with highest technical parameters and aesthetic qualities can be used, with special attention paid to Strzegom granite. The competition was won by Ewa Solima – a graduate of Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, a painter and sculptor, author of many granite sculptures. In her project she referred to the Granite Heart of Poland (“the logo” of Strzegom) and to the sculpture that is situated in the town centre. The first of the spatial forms with an openwork heart was cut with the use of the new diamond wire cutting technology by Piramida company from Kostrza near Strzegom. This company often deals with unique projects with the use of granite.
