On 6 May the Monument of the Siberian Mother was unveiled in Strzegom.
The monument aims to commemorate the mass deportation of Polish people from Eastern Kresy (meaning outskirts or borderlands) to Siberia. The plate with the motto taken from Dziady Part III by Mickiewicz (If I forget about them, You, God, forget about me) and with the words This is for you, nameless Siberian Mothers is going to be attached to the monument. It was all initiated by the Association of Siberians from Strzegom and the project was financed by the District of Strzegom. The sculpture was made by Stanisław Cukier, who is the headmaster of the famous Antoni Kenar School of Art in Zakopane, during the last open air sculpture event in Strzegom. From that time the sculpture was situated in the market square in Strzegom.
