In order to get to Szczecin through the frozen Bay of Szczecin an ice breaker must be used, but not in case of Aura. M/v Aura, built in the ship repair yard in Gdańsk, is adapted to work in winter time. Its ice class is 1A. Aura is carrying an unusual loading: over 3100 tons of granite blocks from Finnish ship yards, said Mariusz Januszkiewicz from Magemar company.
- In Kotka the loading was typical, in a lo-lo system, but in Turek in a ro-ro system (the loading went into the board on wheels). With its maximum speed of 13 knots it reached Szczecin on Sunday, January 24th.
The vessel has an unusual structure it is the so-called multi-purpose ship with an open deck. It has a ramp like in ro-ro vessels and a 85 x 18,8 m very resistant deck. It may carry numerous groups of products, for example, the main elements of a nuclear power plant in Olkiluoto (Finland), or the whole ship sections. M/v Aura is operated by Meriaura Oy from Finland, which is a partner of Magemar Polska within a regular MM-Line which connects the south of Finland with Szczecin. DB Port Szczecin is responsible for the ship unloading.
