This unusual discovery was made in late January in Callejon de Huaylas valley in Ancash. The stone pyramid was used by the Incas to perform religious rituals.

This discovery proves that Ancash region played a much bigger role for that culture than we had thought. Up to now we thought that the hill was natural. But after carrying out archaeological works it turned out that an unusual treasure is hidden in the hill in Callejon de Huaylas valley. Under the ground there is ushnu pyramid which was built by the Incas. Ushnu pyramid is a kind of stepped structure used by the Inca leaders to perform important religious ceremonies.  

This building was made of stone blocks. Its front wall is about 10 meters long. There are stairs which lead into the pyramid. According to the scientists, the pyramid was a place of worship. The local Incas worshiped their gods there. They drunk special liquids and made offerings. Ceremonies were organised by Curaca. Most probably, this place was also used for astronomic observations. The mysterious fortified towers had been built a thousand years before the Incas settled there. According to the scientists, local traditions were mixed with customs and religion of the Incas and the newly discovered pyramid could be the centre of the region.
