The pavement surface in one of the main squares of Śródmieście district will be changed. The square was named the Napoleon’s Square on the anniversary of the death of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1921.
The present name was given in September 1957. The city’s authorities want the renovation to finish on 1 August, on 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The renovation of the square will involve changing pavements. The surface will be made of 20 x 20 cm or 50 x 50 cm granite plates. Wiring and light fitting will be also changed. The central part of the square (it is a car park now) will become friendly for pedestrians. There will be a promenade with benches and flower pots. Car owners will park their cars on side parts of the Warsaw Insurgents Square.
