Destroyed concrete cubes and slabs are going to be replaced by a new surface, which is going to be made of granite. Stone and building works at Piłsudski Square will finish by the end of October.
The consortium of two companies – Planeta (the leader) and Zakład Usług Brukarskich ADROG (the partner) has become the main contractor of this building project. The cost of the renovation of Piłsudski Square will be 12 million zlotys (around 3 million euro). The money comes from the funds of the Governor of Mazowieckie Province.
According to the information published by the investor, granite is supposed to cover the biggest part of the square. According to the conservation officer’s guidelines, they cannot be slabs made of stone of Asian origin. The new surface will be made most probably of two types of stone: Strzegom granite and Ukrainian gabbro. All works will be carried out according to the detailed project documentation made by OCA Architekci design office.
As a part of rebuilding the Piłsudski Square it is also planned to install a drainage system in the main part of the square, to renovate adjacent pavements and improve lightning. The renovation will be supervised by archaeological experts and by Stołeczny Zarząd Rozbudowy Miasta (urban development office in Warsaw).
