Even the most destroyed areas can be rehabilitated. A great example of using the quarry area is an “underground hotel” which is currently being raised in Shanghai. It will be a part of a big, modern theme park designed by Atkins studio.

InterContinental Shimao Wonderland Hotel will be built at one of the walls of a former mine. There will be just a few floors over the ground, and a dozen more… under the ground level but over the water table. Another attraction will be an underwater floor designed for a hotel restaurant. The closed quarry can be found within the distance of 45 kilometres from Shanghai. Until 2000, when exploitation of the deposit was stopped, the pit had been 100 meter deep, 240 meter long and 160 meter wide.
