Granex and Multistone companies from Strzegom made a sarcophagus for the cardinal Stanisław Nagy who died on 5 June this year at the age of 92 in Cracow. The cardinal Stanisław Nagy was teaching fundamental theology at the Catholic Lublin University.
He was a close friend of Karol Wojtyła. The body of the deceased was laid in the sanctuary of the Blessed John Paul II in Cracow-Łagiewniki near the place where in September 2011 cardinal Andrzej Maria Deskura was buried. The sarcophagus in which cardinal Nagy was laid is almost identical to the one made for cardinal Deskura. Both were made of one block of Bulgarian limestone Vratza following the project by Andrzej Milewski, an architect and main designer of the John Paul II Centre “Nie lękajcię się” (Do not be afraid) which started being built in 2009 in Cracow district Borek Fałęcki.
2.5-tonne monolith had to be made as quickly as the one they had had to make the year before. Strzegom-based company Granex managed to get all its workers because monolithic sarcophagus had to be made in a few days. Just like last year, Multistone company was responsible for transport and installation of the sarcophagus. They used a truck with a HDS-type crane, and on the spot they were using a special platform and gantries.
