At the end of May media informed that a stonemason from Oława was hurt in the accident in a stone company. What is the truth?
Doctors were praised and the prosecutor’s office was criticised. All the media were saying about the most famous accident at work. There were fabricated information which said that this tragic accident took place in a stone company. “The rock hit him in his face and crushed it completely” or “a big part of his face was amputated by a block cutting machine” – the headlines said. We checked it and it turned out that that the headlines were far from truth. It turned out that this accident took place in a company which manufactures … concrete goods, particularly concrete paving blocks.
- I confirm this. This accident took place in a company which has nothing to do with stone branch. This is neither a natural stone processing company nor a mining facility, says Zbigniew Pikta, the factory chief inspector from the Regional Health and Safety Office in Wrocław.
Putting aside unreliability of the journalists working for leading papers and magazines, the correction should be completed with other reports. Due to the nature of the accident, the report of the Regional Health and Safety Office has been sent to the prosecutor’s office which is conducting the investigation. As we managed to find out, checks carried out by the specialists from the Regional Health and Safety Office revealed that the accident was caused by professional negligence of workers and negligence in work organisation. It also turned out that the technical condition of the machine contributed to the occurrence of the accident. Which aspect is going to be the dominating one? The prosecutor’s investigation will reveal a lot.
