The biggest stone mosaic in Poland laid by the largest number of people in the shortest time – this was done by hundreds of volunteers and many more accidental passers-by. There were also foreign tourists among them. The mosaic was laid altogether by about 2,000 people. The works were being done for the whole last week.
The ceremonious presentation of the composition took place on 1 June this year. The mosaic is 85 square metres big (length: 93 metres, height: from 60 to 100 cm). This project is a part of “the Days of the Town”. This is the second decoration of this kind in this place. A similar mosaic was made last year. It also referred to Wyspiański’s flower motifs.
The project was organised by the City Hall of Cracow, Krakowskie Biuro Festiwalowe (Festival office in Cracow) and Pracownia Lubosza Karwata. The project was supported by stone industry entrepreneurs who supplied a huge number of pre-cut tiles made of natural stone, necessary equipment and accessories. Before volunteers started laying small stone cubes, specialists had prepared the surface.
