This is an idea of the authorities of Nuremberg, where the remains after the Nazi party can be found. So far the city authorities have spent 100,000 euro to protect the tribune from destruction. The Association of Victims of the Nazi Regime (VVN) has already supported the thorough restoration of the tribune.
Most probably the destroyed elements will be restored not of sandstone but of granite. The renovation costs will be 60-70 million euro. The authorities of Nuremberg want to renovate the tribune to give a chance for future generations to have their own opinion about the Nazi party’s meetings and the influence of such architecture on the participants of the meetings. Robert Minge is in charge of the technical and architectural part of the project.
Since the tribune is in a very bad condition, renovation works will be time consuming and will last at least ten years. The tribune was raised in 1933-38 in the area named Reichsparteitagsgelände. Albert Speer was the author of the tribune. Only a part of the main tribune, so-called Zeppelinhaupttribüne, remained till today. The structure made of sandstone is 360 metres wide. Its concept was inspired by the Great Altar of Zeus. After the war it became neglected. In 1967 a stone roof was destroyed.
